In October 1861 Commodore Hollins’s “mosquito fleet” took part in a raid on a small group of Union ships anchored at the Head of Passes. The “mosquito fleet” consisted of the ironclad ram CSS Manassas supported by the steam sloop CSS McRae and gunboats CSS Ivy, CSS Jackson, CSS Calhoun (flag), CSS James L Day, CSS Tuscarora equipped with 3 fire rafts . The attack occurred in the early hours of October 12, 1861 . In the action the CSS Manassas rammed USS Richmond and the Union vessels panicked by the sight of the Ironclad ram and fire rafts fled in disorder back down the pass to the safety of the sea. The set will consist of models of CSS Calhoun (flag), CSS James L Day and CSS Tuscarora plus 3 fire rafts and models for the lighthouse station situated nearby . The remaining 4 ships are available in two sets that we already produce namely ISN10 and CN1 . A complementary Union set of warships has also been made for this action .
