The Ausf D was the first version of the Panther that was rushed into service at Kursk and produced from January to September 1943 . Plagued by overheating problems it was never the less an excellent tank . This version is reconisable by its simple cupola and ammunition stowage hatch on the turret side , also the hull machine gun didnt have the ball mount seen on later models.
